OGDEN 2ND DISTRICT COURT 4TH FLOOR REMODEL
In 2004 we were commissioned to design the 4th floor build-out of the 2nd District Court in Ogden. 50% of the upper floor was constructed as a shell and we finished a courtroom, 2 multipurpose rooms, a video arraignment courtroom, 2 judges chambers, a jury room and other support spaces. Our challenges for this project were as follows:
. Bringing construction materials into a 4th floor environment was accomplished by setting up a scissor lift on the exterior of the building to a removed window on the 4th floor.
. Construction noise over a functioning courthouse was mitigated by limiting those noisy activities to early morning hours.
. Security issues and concerns were a potential problem that was resolved by teaming with the Weber County security staff and the Owner's maintenance staff. The stairway was re-keyed for construction workers access and "proximity cards" were issued only after a background check was conducted.
. Matching existing finishes was made simple because work was being done in and around areas to be matched.
